Canfield Gardens

CAMDEN LONDON

THE BRIEF

Our client had recently purchased a mansion flat on Canfield Gardens and wanted to add a roof terrace to their top floor property with internal access through a new staircase and glazed lobby at roof level. The brief was to re-configure the internal arrangement of the property alongside to facilitate the complete refurbishment of the internal rooms alongside the creation of the new terrace at roof level. In addition to acting as the Architect and coordinating the required structural interventions at the property RYE Design were also appointed to design the interiors for the refurbished apartment.

THE SCHEME

Our solution to appease the planning constraints within the local conservation area was to devise a motorised glazed box which is mechanically operated and can slide back to permit access to the new roof terrace. This allowed the height of any protrusions on the roof to remain concealed from street level due to their reduced height. A new steel deck was installed to support the new decking and seating areas at roof level. Internally a new staircase was designed to access the roof level alongside the main hallway within the flat. Alongside the architectural interventions at the property RYE Design developed the new interior design scheme for the property with the new owners. This included the comprehensive design of the circulation and living areas, bathrooms, and kitchen with new bespoke joinery and hard finishes throughout.
