Goop

NOTTING HILL LONDON

THE BRIEF

Lifestyle brand Goop founded by Gwyneth Paltrow in 2008 engaged RYE Design to coordinate and deliver the architectural and interior design for their flagship UK store in London. Working in collaboration with Fran Hickman Design we were tasked with creating a retail destination and hub for the company in London’s Notting Hill. The existing unit was split across three levels boasting dual aspect with a rear courtyard and retail frontage onto Westbourne Grove. Fran Hickman Design hand selected the materials palette and loose furniture paying homage to the Californian heritage of the brand. We were then entrusted to integrate this design intent scheme into the constraints of the existing retail unit alongside the technical delivery of the project. This role included detailed drawing, site, and construction coordination in line with the client’s agreed programme.

THE SCHEME

The interior design scheme clearly translates the brand’s personality as an understated, health-conscious, and crafted retail offering. The layout of the retail unit is split into four sections: casual wear and jewellery; beauty and wellness; sportswear; and homeware. These have been arranged across all three levels using the original architecture of the building to define the differing character of each department. Bold use of colour and materiality further defines each of these sections. In collaboration with Fran Hickman we designed bespoke retail displays to best present the variety of products offered by the brand furthering this tailored approach. The Westbourne Grove outpost represents Goop’s European debut which has been launched alongside a full e-commerce store to mark the brand’s 10 year anniversary.
