THE BRIEF

At the front of the well known Le Monde hotel on George St an existing piano lounge area required a full refurbishment in line with the Hotel’s new identity. RYE Design were commissioned to transform this lounge into a destination Champagne Bar to be launched in collaboration with iconic brand Laurent Perrier. Our brief for the design for this new Champagne Bar on George St. was to enhance the glamour of the Georgian building bringing it back to life and creating a new destination on Edinburgh’s iconic central thoroughfare. The lounge underwent a complete re-fit including services, internal walls, hard finishes, and loose furniture.

THE SCHEME

Upon entry guests are greeted by a herringbone catwalk of monochrome black and white tiles, inviting visitors beyond the threshold to explore the Champagne Bar. This catwalk is seen against the backdrop of a large back-lit botanical display which is preserved behind a fluted glass screen. Beyond the entrance the Champagne Bar is fully revealed. Clad in fluted timber and topped with an Arabescato marble surface the bar invites guests to sit on deep crimson leather bar stools whilst sampling the champagne menu. Above the bar a circular brass gantry appears to levitate, housing the extensive spirit selection on offer. On the other side of the bar a dedicated lounge area allows guests to relax at a slower pace. Velvet clamshell armchairs sit alongside a carved Arabescato fireplace creating a sense of opulence and luxury. Suspended above the lounge area are six bespoke brass framed pendant lights which create a soft opal glow, which can be seen from street level.
